NintendoFlow Review: NES Classic Edition

Nostalgia- we all get it once in a while. Whether you remember a game from your childhood, wishing you can play it again to singing along to an old song that comes on the radio. Either way, you're guaranteed to have a big smile on your face, thinking of those good ol' days. Nintendo has restored nostalgia to some by releasing the NES Classic Edition.

The NES Classic Edition comes with 30 games which includes classics such as: all 3 Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, MegaMan 2, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy and more all built into a sleek, tiny version of the original NES! So how is the NES Classic Edition? Let's find out!

Size:

The NES Classic Edition is a very small device and I mean very very small. The device can fit into the palm of your hands and is no bigger than a New 3DS Xl! The NES can easily be hidden out of sight- but why would anyone want to do that? The compact size is very welcoming, especially if you have many devices already hooked up to the TV.

Controller:

There is one downside to its small size, and that's it's controller. Although the NES controller is very comfortable to use and the buttons feel nice and very responsive. The real problem, however, is the cord length. Most of us are used to the comfort of wireless controllers while relaxing on our sofas. The NES Classic Edition controller features a very short cord that will cause you to sit very close to the TV...just like the old days!

There is one way around this. The NES controller can be connected to a blue-tooth receiver in order to play "wireless" Also, if you own a Wii U, you can connect the NES controller to a Wiimote and play virtual console games with it!

Software:

The NES Classic Edition features an amazing library of 30 built in games (no cartridges on this guy!) and each one is fun! Granted some titles may not be for you but can be fun to try out. Nintendo did a great job in selecting the games that are included, however some might find it useful to add more content via an SD card, unfortunately there is no SD slot.

These games are great for both returning fans of the original (those who want to play these games again) and for those who get to experience these classics for the first time. When you first boot this system up, you're going to have a hard time trying to pick what game to start!

The NES Classic Edition comes with a couple of display settings. It can emulate the classic feeling of an old a CRT TV and it even has a "pixel perfect" mode - for true HD Classic gaming!

Overall:

This system is more of a novelty than a full blown system. I actually had fun playing this, and lost about 4 hours glued to the screen! Each game is fun and some are addicting! If you're a hardcore Nintendo fan then this is a no brainer and a must buy! What if you're not a hardcore Nintendo fan? Is it still worth it? The answer is definitely! With it's amazing library of classic games and small size, it makes for a perfect birthday or Christmas gift- and all for the low price of $59.99!

Besides the small controller length, the NES Classic Edition is a must buy this holiday season and I highly recommend it!
