NintendoFlow Review: Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World

Back in 2015 Nintendo released Yoshi's Woolly World on the Wii U, fast forward two years and now the game is on the Nintendo 3DS,but the question is, is it any good?

Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World is relatively the same game from 2015 but of course, with some minor differences. Obviously, one of the major differences is the visuals. While the Wii U gave us a detailed yarn world, it's been somewhat watered down on the 3DS. Don't worry though as the game still gives you a nice warm fuzzy feeling from the cuteness of the yarn world.

If you played the original version on Wii U and want to come back for a challenge, then you're out of luck. The main story and gameplay are nearly identical and for Poochy...well he doesn't add much to the game unless you're looking for a super easy mode.

Playing along with Poochy makes the game easier than ever and I mean super easy! While the Wii U version had an easy mode where Yoshi grew wings and made it impossible for him to fall, the 3DS version still gives you a winged Yoshi and 3 Poochy pups to help you.

The 3 Poochy pups aren't all that bad. Just like the original games, there was many hidden items to find and sometimes it was a pain to find them. Luckily the Poochy pups help you find these items by going near one and start scratching to make you investigate that area. The pups also come in handy as they defeat enemies for you while clearing a path! Not only that, if you ever run out of yarn balls (which is almost impossible in this game) you can swallow a poochy pup as a back up for a yarn ball. There are also Poochy levels in which the level automatically runs for you while you are trying to obtain various items and rescuing the other pups. Those levels can be quite fun honestly!

Besides the Poochy pups, there's not much difference from the Wii U and 3DS versions. Amiibo support is back and like last time, you can unlock various costumes for Yoshi to wear on his journey. The 3DS version does however, allow players to create a custom design for Yoshi to wear. Oh and did I mention that the 3DS version has cute little shorts!?

Yup! Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World has these amazing and well animated stop motion shorts for your viewing pleasure. They star both Poochy & Yoshi getting into all sorts of shenanigans. You can't help but smile and enjoy these animated shorts. You can unlock one daily and there's 31 to collect!

All in all Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World is a great game, while similar to it's older brother on the Wii U, there's enough differences to make it stand on it's own. I enjoyed my time with the original and I still had a blast with the updated version. Whether you're going in for the first or second time, or simply want a Yoshi adventure on the go, Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World is a must have for Nintendo 3DS owners.
